Teachers' Day aims to recognise the contribution of teachers to the cause of education. The date of the festival varies from country to country, with 10 September in mainland China and 28 September in Taiwan Province of China.
Respect for teachers is a fine tradition in China, as early as the 11th century BC in the Western Zhou Dynasty proposed "disciples serve their teachers with the same respect as their fathers". Confucius, a great educator in ancient times, left a series of wise sayings, such as "teach without prejudice", "learn from the past and know the new", "learn from time to time" and so on. Teachers who preach and teach are regarded by the Chinese as the engineers of the soul of mankind.
